World Postcard Day The moment of joy when you find a postcard in your letter box
Catherine and Roger’s love story is a very special one, and it all began with a postcard. In July 2015, Catherine wrote the card in the French town of Cholet and sent it to Roger in Zofingen. The pair struck up an instant rapport and continued writing to each other. Postcards turned into letters, and letters turned into Skype calls. Eventually, the postcard fans met face to face on the ski slopes in Switzerland. Catherine moved to Switzerland four years ago, and a marriage proposal followed in February 2017 – by postcard, of course. They’ve since tied the knot. It seems, to coin a phrase, that the way to someone’s heart is through a postcard.
1 October is World Postcard Day
The postcard has been a success story for a long time now. More than 150 years ago, on 1 October 1869, the first postcard was sent in Austria-Hungary. And to this day, they still bring people together. Not all of them lead to great love stories, as they did for Catherine and Roger. But as a holiday greeting or congratulatory message, they are still a delightful thing for family, friends and relatives to receive. That’s precisely why World Postcard Day is celebrated every year on 1 October – to pay tribute to the feeling of joy we experience when a postcard suddenly arrives in our letter box. When did you last write a postcard? There’s no time like the present. Grab a postcard and write a message to a close friend.
